HLM Architects is proud to announce that we have been shortlisted in two categories at the 2025 AJ100 Awards, ‘Employer of the Year’ and ‘New Talent Award – Part 1’. This recognition is a testament to our ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive and inspiring workplace, while championing the next generation of talent.
We are delighted to be named finalists in for Employer of the Year and New Talent Award at the AJ100 Awards 2025.
Now in its 30th year, the AJ100, organised by The Architects’ Journal, ranks the top 100 architecture practices in the UK based on factors including size, turnover and staff engagement. The Employer of the Year award honours practices that invest in the wellbeing and development of their people, with this year’s criteria placing particular emphasis on efforts to promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
Employer of the Year finalist six years in a row
We are honoured to be shortlisted for Employer of the Year for the sixth consecutive year, having previously won the title in 2020 and 2021. With over 200 talented individuals connected across regional and national studios, our team is the driving force behind everything we do. Their creativity, dedication, and collaborative spirit are what continue to set HLM Architects apart.
Since transitioning to an Employee Ownership Trust in 2021, we’ve embraced a purpose-driven culture guided by six strategic objectives – one of which is to be an employer of choice. Through initiatives like the HLM Academy, our I-BELONG diversity and inclusion framework, and a 10-year leadership succession plan, we strive to create a culture where everyone can thrive. Our Employee Voice Hub, regular insight surveys and commitment to continuous improvement ensure that our people remain at the heart of every decision.
Celebrating new talent at HLM Architects
We’re also delighted that Elizabeth Jackson has been shortlisted for the New Talent Award – Part 1. This category celebrates emerging professionals who demonstrate exceptional promise and a positive impact early in their careers.
Since joining our Sheffield Studio in 2023, Elizabeth has made a significant contribution to both project work and studio culture. Predominantly working in the education sector, she has played a pivotal role in the refurbishment of the Health Sciences Library for the University of Leeds, engaging directly with stakeholders and end-users to help shape the design. Her proactive approach, creativity, and professionalism have made her a key member of the team.
In addition to her project work, Elizabeth has taken on the role of CPD Coordinator in Sheffield, curating valuable learning opportunities for colleagues and mentoring students on work experience placements. Her participation in cross-studio Design Forums highlights her dedication to personal and professional growth, as well as her enthusiasm for collaboration and learning.
Commenting on the shortlistings, Philip Watson, Chair of HLM Architects, said:
“We are incredibly proud to be recognised once again in the AJ100 Awards. Being shortlisted for Employer of the Year for the sixth consecutive year reflects the strength of our culture, the clarity of our purpose, and the passion of our people. I’m especially delighted to see Elizabeth Jackson shortlisted for the New Talent Award. She exemplifies the future of our profession – thoughtful, driven, and committed to making a difference. Her contribution in such a short space of time has been remarkable, and we are excited to see her continue to grow.”
The winners of the AJ100 Awards 2025 will be announced on the 20th of June in London.
