The AJ100 survey ranks the top 100 Architectural practices in the UK, which takes into account the size, turnover and number of employees among other factors. The survey also gives completing practices the opportunity to enter multiple, additional award categories based on their portfolio from the year. HLM have made the following shortlists this year:
Sustainability Initiative of the Year – Circular Twin
This collaborative digital twinning process was an industry first, proving that early collaboration and a change in mindset when approaching project design can result in significant reductions in whole life carbon. The study was published in November 2021, as has already been adopted by LETI (London Energy Transformation Initiative) as best practice.
Innovation of the Year – PBBS Demonstrator
This project demonstrates innovations in twelve products as well as a platform/system approach, and delivers a proof of concept for the Laing O’Rourke design solutions in residential and educational sectors. Along with the product innovations, HLM developed design guides to accompany the platform designs for each sector. The innovative approach achieved significant reductions across the project, not only in terms of carbon but also design, manufacturing lead times, labour, and assembly.
Sustainability Champion of the Year – Karl Brown
Karl Brown was promoted to Head of Sustainability in September 2021, in recognition of his contribution towards HLM’s sustainability initiatives. Karl led the Circular Twin research and development project, co-authored our carbon reduction plan and has been instrumental in helping clients to realise their sustainability goals.
Employer of the Year
We are honoured to be among the finalists again this year, having held this title for the past two years, 2020 and 2021. Achieving the shortlist for this important accolade recognizes our ongoing dedication to supporting and developing our staff through our inclusive, evolving culture.
We’re looking forward to the awards night on 22nd June, where we will find out the final rankings, the winners in these categories and more.
Good luck, everyone!
