Construction has completed on Hollis Croft – the new, 972 bed mixed-use student residential development located off Broad Lane in the West Bar area of Sheffield.

Hollis Croft has now officially opened for Sheffield’s students. It includes studios, en-suite clusters and apartments. The student hub includes a cinema room, study spaces, games and social amenity spaces. HLM has designed the high quality, vibrant residential scheme to have student amenity spaces at street level. The design features an 18-storey tower which creates a new flagship building for the city, and a new landmark on the Sheffield skyline. HLM also developed the masterplan and landscape proposals, with new pedestrian links through the site – connecting the development to the wider city, while still retaining historic street patterns.

Speaking about the new development, lead architect for HLM, Moinak Basu, said:

“Hollis Croft offers exceptional accommodation for Sheffield’s students at the heart of the city, and will significantly contribute to the regeneration of an area steeped in industrial heritage”.

“The development sits adjacent to the Well Meadow Conservation Area and is within the St. Vincent’s Quarter, which contains several listed buildings and other heritage assets. The design incorporates elements of the site’s former history, including an architecture which takes reference from some of the existing warehouse structures. The new pedestrian links through the site connect the development to the wider city, creating vibrant active frontages within a new landscaped public realm, offering a variety of outdoor spaces for students to come together and interact – promoting mental, physical and social wellbeing”.
