Last night, HLM were named winners of the Student Accommodation Development of the Year Award at the Scottish Property Awards for Whitehorn Hall in St Andrews, a joint venture between the University of St Andrews and Campus Living Villages.

As Scotland’s largest annual celebration of commercial and public property, the awards celebrate high quality work to improve the urban environment and are judged by an independent panel of experts bringing together industry experience and market knowledge.

Associate, Ross Barrett, said, “St Andrews is an internationally renowned university that prides itself on its traditions and commitment to education, our design was driven by our ambition to deliver the ultimate student experience. We wanted to create unique spaces that would allow the students to prosper in an environment that felt supportive and comfortable, while retaining the traditional values it’s built on. We’re thrilled with the end result and the continued recognition from our industry peers.”

Whitehorn Hall is part of the largest single expansion of student residences in St Andrews for over a decade. HLM created a space that built on the university’s traditional values, while providing world-class, memorable accommodation with the student experience at its heart. Working closely with the client and students to understand the needs of the people who will use the building, HLM placed the social spaces in key positions on each level, creating a good balance of social, informal and formal spaces within the new hall to provide students with plenty of choice so they can learn and thrive in a comfortable environment.
