HLM have secured shortlistings for the categories of ‘Architectural Practice’ and ‘Inspiring Learning Spaces’ in the 2021 Education Estates Awards.
“Through continued investment in technology and people, we have created educational projects that provide state-of-the-art, leading facilities, based around our commitment to sustainable futures.”
Now in their 9th year, the awards celebrate commitment to design and innovation in education, with a total of fifteen categories this year. The categories recognise excellence across the work of consultants, contractors, architects, clients, projects as well as innovation and sustainability.
The ‘Architectural Practice of the Year’ award recognises an architectural practice which has demonstrated excellence in delivering value and functionality with projects, whilst also promoting best practice in innovative design in the education sector. Philip Watson, Director and Head of Design, said, “Through continued investment in technology and people, we have created educational projects that provide state-of-the-art, leading facilities, based around our commitment to sustainable futures. We’re proud to have been shortlisted in two categories this year, which has been especially challenging.”
The ‘Inspiring Learning Spaces’ category recognises innovation in the creation of inspiring spaces that help to promote different and new ways of learning and teaching and that can be easily replicated across the education estate. The criteria focus on how projects make positive impact, both to users and the wider community and environment. The Glasgow studio worked closely with the University of Glasgow and the building users to create the James McCune Smith Learning & Teaching Hub, emphasising the student experience to provide an environment that is open and accessible for all. The new learning and teaching hub forms the initial phase University’s expansion programme and creates a signature gateway building at the heart of the expanded campus based on active learning pedagogies.
The winners will be announced at a dinner and exhibition event on 12th October in Manchester.
