As part of our embedded corporate social responsibilities, an acute sense of social purpose is at the heart of everything we do.

It is clear to us that, while the diverse communities that our projects are based in each have their own complexities, prevalent across most major cities are homelessness issues. With many hospitality projects across the country, Head of Hospitality, Andrew Buchanan came up with a great idea to give something back to those facing homelessness. A plan was quickly formed – when one of our hotel projects completes, HLM will donate the cost of a week in the hotel to a safe homeless accommodation in the city of the project.

“It is really important to us as a business that we give back to the communities we work and live in. It is vitally important that everyone can access a safe place to stay and access the help they need. It feels great to know we can help in a small way” Andrew Buchanan

Refurbishment works, led by HLM, have recently completed at the voco Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow. In contrast to the stunning architecture that can be found throughout the city, there is also a complex poverty and homelessness problem. The Simon Community Scotland are Scotland’s largest provider of homelessness services, which is why we chose them as one of our first beneficiaries. Our donation will help the charity continue to offer safe places to sleep for vulnerable adults and young people.

Hugh Hill, Director of Services and Development said “Our street teams support people off the streets who often have nothing but the clothes they stand in and with winter coming it’s desperately important that we can act quickly when we find someone in need. The donation from HLM Architects will enable us to not only secure a place to sleep but provide clean clothes, toiletries and food so they not only feel safe but feel valued”.
