HLM are pleased to announce the promotion of Ross Barrett, Associate, to the newly created role of Design Director.

Ross’ appointment recognises his contribution to HLM’s growing portfolio of innovative, sustainable building design. He has been integral to the development of many flagship projects, including the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), TIC Zone Phase 2 a major new Passivhaus scheme for University of Strathclyde, a number of new residences for the University of St Andrews and series of new healthcare buildings at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.
One of HLM’s seven certified Passivhaus Designers, Ross delivered our first Passivhaus project, Tigh Na Croit in 2014, which subsequently won multiple awards. Ross has long been part of HLM’s sustainability team, and a key member of the team in driving our sustainability agenda and objectives across the business.
His appointment as Design Director illustrates a visible career path for talented designers, and supports HLM’s commitment to personal and professional development throughout the practice.
