We’re pleased to welcome Julie Winrow to the team as our in-house Environmental Designer. Julie’s experience and interest in designing for wellbeing and building efficiency will further support our ambitions of a sustainable built environment of the future.
Her appointment also further strengthens our in-house Passivhaus team, having undertaken the Passivhaus designer course during the pandemic.
As Environmental Designer, Julie will assist project teams in achieving the highest sustainable outcomes on our designs. Her appointment also further strengthens our in-house Passivhaus team, having undertaken the Passivhaus designer course during the pandemic.
Following several years of cross-sector architectural experience, Julie pursued her interest in sustainability with the ‘Energy Efficient and Environmental Building Design’ course in Sweden. Her thesis focused on daylight and energy in buildings, building on her BArch thesis on bioclimatic design (designing buildings to optimize their performance from their natural location). The themes of her research are clearly reflective of a keen interest in Passivhaus design.
She also took the opportunity to undertake the WELL standards course, which puts health and wellbeing at the centre of design. This clearly links to Passivhaus principles, which provide optimum user experience through high levels of air quality and thermal comfort.
She commented:
“I believe human-centred design and wellbeing in buildings are of increased relevance following COVID-19. I’m particularly interested in the crossover areas between Passivhaus buildings and wellness in the built environment, and I’m looking forward to working on interesting projects with a specific focus on sustainability, health and wellbeing.”
Her appointment will help us to focus our design development on achieving these important outcomes, for users and for the environment.
