We are thrilled to be named as finalists in five categories at the MMC Awards 2025. Being shortlisted in a variety of categories recognises how we have pioneered Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) innovation. From delivering groundbreaking projects, conducting industry-leading research and development, and shaping early platforms for government and contractors, all of which positions HLM Architects as the go to practice for contractors seeking offsite construction expertise. The shortlistings include:
- Achieving Net Zero in a Project – MMC Schools Framework
- Architectural Practice of the Year
- Innovation of the Year – Product, Process or Company – Digital Kit of Parts for the Ministry for Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG, formerly DLUHC)
- Project of the Year for Education (SEND/CAMHS/Mental Health) – Pathways School
- Women in Modern Methods of Construction – Anne Daw, Head of MMC Delivery
Pioneering Net Zero in Education
We have played a pivotal role in the Department for Education’s (DfE) £3 billion MMC1 Framework, advancing the integration of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) in educational buildings across the UK. In partnership with Reds10, our work within the framework prioritises the reduction of embodied and operational carbon through a highly efficient off-site construction approach. Schools such as Pathways School, Oak Tree School, and The Compass School have all been delivered with up to 87% pre-manufactured value (PMV), significantly reducing construction waste, site-based emissions, and overall energy consumption
Architectural Practice of the Year: Championing MMC Excellence
We have a long history of delivering MMC, contributing to key government and industry initiatives such as the DfE Baseline School Design, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) Single Living Accommodation (SLA) standardisation, and MMC research. 1 of our 6 strategic objectives, we are committed to remaining at the forefront of MMC by upskilling our people and developing our capability to create and share information using digital design platforms. We embrace MMC, as a safer, faster, greener, leaner and better-quality way to make buildings.
Driving Innovation Through the Digital Kit of Parts for Low-Rise Housing
In partnership with Akerlof, Buro Happold, and Limberger Associates, we have collaborated on behalf of the Ministry for Housing, Communities, & Local Government (MHCLG, formerly DLUHC) to develop a Digital Kit of Parts for MMC in low-rise housing—a transformative innovation addressing key barriers to modern construction. This open-access tool standardises design performance and dimensions, enhancing sector-wide collaboration and efficiency in low-rise housing.
Transforming SEND Education with Pathways School
Pathways School in Dagenham is an all-through SEMH school, built to provide state-of-the-art learning environments for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. Completed as part of the DfE’s Off-Site Schools Framework, the project demonstrates that 87% offsite construction can deliver bespoke, inclusive, and high-performance educational spaces for SEND students. With a modern, purpose-driven design, Pathways has become a beacon for SEND education and sustainable construction, championing the role of MMC in shaping the future of schools.
Recognising Women in MMC: Anne Daw’s Industry Leadership
Anne Daw is a driving force in the advancement of MMC, demonstrating exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to industry transformation. As a champion of offsite construction and DfMA, Anne has made significant contributions to both practice and education, ensuring that MMC becomes a mainstream, sustainable, and inclusive solution for the built environment. Her influence is evident within HLM, where 75% of MMC champions are women, illustrating both Anne’s impact as a female role model and the sector’s potential in driving positive change for inclusivity.
Reflecting on the shortlisting’s, Anne Daw commented:
“These five shortlisting’s are a fantastic recognition of our commitment to remaining at the forefront of DfMA and MMC, upskilling our people, and enhancing our digital capabilities to drive innovation. We are proud to be leading the way in shaping better, smarter, and greener buildings for generations to come.”
The winners of the MMC Awards 2025 will be announced on the 8th of May at the Grand Hotel Birmingham. Good luck to all the finalists, we look forward to celebrating alongside industry leaders who share the mission of transforming construction through MMC.
