The Scottish Property Awards Finalists have been announced and HLM Architects has made the list in the Architectural Excellence Award (Public Use) with the James McCune Smith Learning Hub for the University of Glasgow.
“Since opening, this world-leading learning and teaching facility has received a tremendous response from both students and staff with positive feedback on the range of active learning spaces.”
The design of the James McCune Smith Learning Hub was inspired and driven by user consultation at every level, creating a memorable gateway building that is focussed on enhancing the student experience. The hub provides state of the art learning and teaching facilities for over 2,500 students with interactive teaching and active learning spaces that embrace new teaching pedagogies while optimising space utilisation in a highly sustainable “BREEAM Excellent” facility.
Founded in 2014 the awards aim to recognise the best new commercial and public buildings in Scotland, judged by a panel of experts drawn from across the sector, bringing together industry experience and market knowledge, recognising achievements in the built environment across Scotland.
Patrick Clark, Associate Director, said of the announcement:
“We’re delighted that the James McCune Smith Learning Hub has been shortlisted for the Scottish Property Awards. Since opening, this world-leading learning and teaching facility has received a tremendous response from both students and staff with positive feedback on the range of active learning spaces. It will support a motivated, vibrant, and diverse community of learners and academics, and as a team, we’re very proud of this project. It’s a building that speaks of the University’s inclusive ambitions and of cultural heritage of the city itself.”
Winners will be announced on the 30th March at the Glasgow Doubletree by Hilton.
