Two projects named finalists in three categories at this year’s Mixology North23 Awards

Two of our recently completed Higher Education projects have taken centre stage this year across the three categories; the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and The Wave for the University of Sheffield.

We are thrilled to share that we’ve been named finalists in three categories of the Mixology North23 Awards.

The headquarters building for NMIS, a partnership scheme between University of Strathclyde, the Advanced Forming Research Centre, High Value Manufacturing Catapult, Skills Development Scotland and Scottish Enterprise has been shortlisted for Project of the Year – Workplace Interiors – 5,000 to 15,000 sq ft.

This iconic scheme, which sits beside Glasgow Airport, brings together industry, academia and public sector bodies to transform the future of research and innovation. The highly sustainable, flexibility and adaptable interiors create a positive, high-quality and healthy experience for all users through biophilia, passive measures, and low-impact materials.

The Wave, the new home to the University of Sheffield’s Faculty of Social Sciences, has been shortlisted in both the Project of the Year – Public Sector & Cultural Interiors and Project of the Year – Positive Impact.

The scheme, which is the university’s first net zero carbon building, is centred around themes of collaboration and the idea that every learning space should be active. Its central drum epitomizes these, complimented by materials that soften the feel of what can be a high-traffic space.

Located on a mini-campus, the Wave’s scheme includes pocket parks and a café accessible to the public; creating social value through the introduction of a community element.

Andy Illingworth, Head of Interiors, commented:

“To be shortlisted in three categories is amazing and testament to our talented interiors team”

One of the highlights of the commercial interior architecture and design calendar, the awards ceremony will take place on 30th November at Manchester Central. Good luck to all the finalists – we look forward to seeing you there!
