HLM Architects has strengthened its award-winning Landscape Architecture team with several appointments of landscape architects.
Alethea Ottewell, Head of Landscape Architecture HLM Architects, said: “Our Landscape Architecture team continues to go from strength to strength and these new appointments will further enhance our ability to deliver best in class landscape design for our clients. It’s been a busy and successful year for our team as we continue to provide a good quality service to our clients and design thoughtful projects which meet and exceed their requirements. Combined with the Masterplanning team, we are seeing new opportunities for landscape emerging which is exciting and positive for the company to showcase our skills and expertise in landscape architecture.”
Joining the practice are Andrew McHenry as a Senior Landscape Architect, Conrad Clayden, as Landscape Architect, Stephy Liu, Victoria Tantum and Alex Flynn in the role of Assistant Landscape Architect.
Andrew has over nine years of experience across diverse project types in the UK, US and internationally. More recently, he has focused on leading residential and commercial landscape projects, both in London and abroad, working on projects such as HLM’s Hanwood Park Masterplan, a new neighbourhood to the east of Kettering which will provide up to 5,500 new homes, five new schools, retail and leisure facilities and parks and woodlands. Andrew is leading the landscape design to develop the overall masterplan and indicative design for the landscape and public realm areas, streetscape network, sustainable urban drainage features and indicative site levels.
Conrad, who has over six years’ experience previously working for landscape practices, brings a wealth of experience to the team including an interest in school design. His projects include: The Centre for Learning and Wellbeing, a special education school, and Cowbridge Comprehensive School, both in Wales. Willowfield and Sandhurst Band Facilities. He has been expanding his experience into the defence and emergency services sectors and currently delivering three new fire stations for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services and Single Living Accommodation for the armed forces.
Victoria joined the team after studying landscape architecture at the University of Sheffield, qualifying with Distinction. She has been engaged with the masterplanning team on large scale new residential developments and is currently working on concept designs for Nottingham Trent University on new public realm schemes throughout the campus. Victoria has a passion for communicating ideas visually, seeking to making inspiring graphics for clients.
Stephy, who studied in Hong Kong, has extensive experience in responding to green architecture and new built and fitting-out projects, covering the BEAM Plus Society regulations. She has managed a range of projects through the construction process and specialises in design management. Stephy is applying her University training as an urban design into masterplanning, streetscape and public realm design. As well as expanding her knowledge into the education sector being involved with Ysgol y Deri school, Wales, and new build primary schools in the Republic of Ireland.
Alex attained a Master’s with a Distinction in landscape architecture from The University of Sheffield, where he specialised in landscape design and planning with a focus on creation and management of landscapes for long term sustainability. His proven record of keeping to a project schedule and meeting deliverables has led to his involvement in projects such as Wrexham Maelor Hospital Critical Care Courtyard, in which Alex produced a landscape proposals document based on transforming an unused courtyard space into an area which brings nature and beauty closer to the critical care unit.
