Great news that the new Renal Unit at Western General Hospital Edinburgh, has won at this year’s Building Better Healthcare Awards, in the Best Healthcare Development UK category.
The new unit has increased the number of dialysis stations from 9 to 12. Up to 72 patients can now be treated in the unit.
HLM’s design prioritises the patient experience with views across the city and natural light flooding in from clerestory rooflights. The interior is simple and neutral with warm timber accents and soft blue highlights. Clinical areas light and airy providing a peaceful restorative experience for patients.
Melanie Jacobsen Cox, Head of Healthcare said ”We are so pleased that Renal Unit has been recognised with another ward having been previously been awarded a Highly Commended Award at the Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) Awards. The new Renal Unit provides a bright modern space for patients undergoing dialysis. The internal design provides a welcoming restful environment with wonderful views to Edinburgh Castle alongside a considered and well-mannered external appearance worthy of its historic context”.
