Recently, HLM was awarded a Healthcare Commendation for the Renal Unit at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh at the Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) awards. The project also got a special mention in the sustainability category.

Project are produced within the GIA Chapter or by GIA Chapter Members. The awards offer an insight into modern architectural design and award-winning practice.
The Renal unit at Western General hospital transforms services and creates more space, comfort and privacy for patients. The new state of the art renal dialysis facility, replaces the 30 year old dialysis units in a new dedicated building
The design prioritises the patient experience as patients can spend several hours a day in treatment. The upper level is arranged with the main treatment rooms located to the south, with views across the adjacent residential properties towards Edinburgh’s West End and Edinburgh Castle
The new space addresses current and projected demands of the dialysis services, it is connected to the existing hospital via a link bridge structure at upper ground floor level.
