The Renal unit at Western General hospital transforms services and creates more space, comfort and privacy for patients. The new state of the art renal dialysis facility, replaces the 30 year old dialysis units in a new dedicated building

The design prioritises the patient experience as patients can spend several hours a day in treatment. The upper level is arranged with the main treatment rooms located to the south, with views across the adjacent residential properties towards Edinburgh’s West End and Edinburgh Castle

The new space addresses current and projected demands of the dialysis services, it is connected to the existing hospital via a link bridge structure at upper ground floor level.

Lorraine Roberston, Director said “Delighted that the Renal Unit at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh was awarded a healthcare commendation at last week’s Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) Awards.  The new unit transforms the patient experience allowing patients privacy and much needed comfort while they are undergoing dialysis.”
