Kosta Kapetangiannis, Studio Director, Dublin, HLM Architects

We are excited to announce the appointment of Kosta Kapetangiannis as our new studio director for the Dublin studio, spearheading our growth in the city and across the Republic of Ireland.

HLM Architects appoint Dublin Studio Director to deliver places for people across the Republic of Ireland

Bringing more than 24 years of experience in large commercial practices across Ireland delivering public and private sector projects, Kosta will oversee the daily operations and development of the team at our Dublin studio, collaborating with the Belfast studio, and leveraging contacts to forge new client relationships that will enhance the practice’s presence nationally.

Kosta said: “HLM Architects is renowned for its commitment to delivering places for people to live, work, play and contemplate. I am passionate to build further upon this by sharing my knowledge and best practices to help create buildings and places that are not merely exceptional to experience and explore, but also efficient in their utilisation of space, durable and cost-effective. I am a champion for adventure in design and I enjoy the challenge of shaping and constructing spaces in a way that is mindful of the needs of all who can benefit.”

Kosta’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Dublin’s architectural sector. The city has seen a significant boom in residential development over the past few years, driven by a shift towards high-density living and a concerted effort to address the housing crisis.

Kosta added: “Dublin has undergone a remarkable transformation, with both private and state organisations pushing for higher standards in housing, sustainability, and buildability. This progressive approach presents incredible opportunities for growth and innovation in the sector. It is a great privilege to be part of an industry that can make a significant difference, especially when the demand for thoughtful, high-density residential development is so high.

“The HLM team has a great sense of camaraderie, and the positive culture that permeates through its UK and Ireland offices creates the ideal environment for us to deliver meaningful projects that resonate with their occupants and communities; our work is about creating the most impactful spaces that matter.”

The education sector remains a key focus for the practice, including design works to the James Joyce Library and Newman buildings at University College Dublin, as well as inclusion as landscape architects for the schools builds in Lot 6 at Sandymount, Greystones and City West for the Department of Education.

Simon Bell, Director at HLM Architects, said: “Kosta’s leadership and experience will be invaluable as we continue to expand our footprint in Dublin and deliver exceptional projects across Ireland, harnessing the power of collaboration for each discipline with our fantastic teams across Belfast, London, Sheffield, Glasgow, and Cardiff.

“We have reinforced our commitment and offering to our ambitious clients in the Irish market since we opened our Dublin studio in 2019. Kosta will work closely with Nicola McKay who will continue in her role as Belfast Studio Director with both having an all Ireland focus to deliver our thoughtful design approach creating memorable places for people in Ireland.”
