We are delighted to announce that last night HLM Architects scooped Architectural Practice of the Year in the annual Building Awards.

The Awards, which took place in a virtual ceremony this year, acknowledge and celebrate top performing companies and best practice across the built environment.

The Architectural Practice of the Year category rewards firms that have successfully managed innovative projects over the last 12 months, looking at market adaptability, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

Over the last year, HLM Architects have created a range of new digital design and engagement tools as well as securing significant architectural design projects, particularly those which act as a catalyst for regeneration in innovation districts.

This includes the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland, the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering at King’s College London, Ysgol Pen Rhos School in Wales, and Innovation Centre 7, a £25m new innovation centre for the University of Keele.

Our recently launched ‘Thoughtful Design Toolkit’ has successfully enabled more extensive stakeholder consultation and design team meetings to progress remotely, so that projects can continue in a highly effective way. For customer satisfaction, our web-based HLM_Impact tool has helped us to assess whether the buildings we work on are delivering the quality of environment / experience that was envisaged, via a post-occupancy digital survey of building users.

Richard O’Neil, Chair, said: “We are extremely honoured to have been recognised for the hard work and investment our team has shown over the last year to innovation and excellence. Our approach has meant we have been able to help clients, partners and consultants in new ways, while enhancing their digital environments and discovering how best to communicate, collaborate and successfully deliver. Sustainability has been an important part of our success story, and we’re on track to have everything we design by 2025 achieve the RIBA 2030 Sustainable Outcomes. This is a great result and we would like to thank our teams and business colleagues for their ongoing support and commitment.”
