HLM Architects celebrates 3 new Associate promotions

HLM Architects has further strengthened its leadership team with three new Associate promotions. Christopher Bentley, Simon Gabe and Kim Johnson have all been promoted to Associates.

“Succession is crucially important for our continued success”

Effective from the 1st April 2024, Simon Gabe, Christopher Bentley and Kim Johnson will be appointed as Associates. All three have actively engaged with our HLM Academy Associate Pathway development programme over a period of time working effectively toward these positions extending their expertise and skills along the way.

As an Architect, Simon is a valued member of the London team leading various projects across the combined sector including leisure and residential typologies. He has developed a sound technical understanding of both traditional and MMC environments, from conception through to construction on site and is growing in his role as a client facing project lead. He is also a member of the sustainability team and has recently been accepted into the Housing Futures Network, where he is enrolled on The Institute of Leadership ‘My Leadership’ programme.

Christopher has been lead Architect coordinating our team on a number of the DfE MMC1 Framework school projects with Reds10. Over this past year he’s been involved with projects at all stages from the early client engagement meetings, to planning applications and the detailed technical design stage, with three schools opening this September. He has also had a very active role in his former role as Voice Hub Chair and been a very valued mentor in the studio to those studying for their professional exam. Christopher is about to move to our Sheffield Studio where he is looking forward to working more closely with our team there.

Kim Johnson joined HLM in April 2020 as an experienced Bid Coordinator and quickly progressed to Bid Lead. Working on growing and developing the bid function with the practice, Kim is passionate about professionalising the bid process and last year further progressed her own professional qualifications by gaining her Bid/Proposal Practitioner Certification. Currently enjoying maternity leave with her family, HLM are looking forward to welcoming Kim back later this year.

Philip Watson, Chair, Head of Design, said “Succession is crucially important for our continued success, so I’m delighted to be able to share the news of three new Associate appointments. Simon, Christopher and Kim have each made significant contributions to the practice’s growth and capability in recent years and I’m really looking forward to seeing how their experience, expertise, and commitment positively impacts the senior leadership team moving forwards.”
