Radisson Blu, Sheffield, finalist in the Mixology North Awards, Project of the Year – Hotel Interiors category, HLM Architects

Mix Awards North is one of the most anticipated commercial interiors events of the year; celebrating the very best of commercial interior design from the north of the UK and Ireland.  Delighted that Radisson Blu, Sheffield has been selected as a finalist in the Project of the Year – Hotel Interiors category.

The new hotel is a unique yet sensitive addition to Sheffield’s city scape.

The new architecture is cleverly combined with the historic fabric of the city. Behind the Victorian façade are 154 contemporary rooms, a rooftop speakeasy-style Indian restaurant and bar, flexible meeting and event spaces with an outdoor terrace, and a fully equipped fitness centre.

By retaining the historic facade and using complementary materials and colours it ensures the new development reflects the city’s strong identity. In conceptualising this landmark hotel, we aimed to highlight what makes Sheffield special. Known as the Steel City and nestled on the edge of the Peak District, the city’s contrasting elements are embodied in the design. Combining this concept with the hotel brands standards, the design team have delivered a hotel that is unmistakably Radisson and unmistakably Sheffield.

The interiors have been thoughtfully designed to reflect the locality of the hotel, focussing on texture, colour and pattern. Design details throughout the spaces reflect a juxtaposition between outstanding natural beauty and industrial heritage. Soft furnishings depicting topography landscapes are complimented with furniture formed of steel structures and a combination of contrasting materials. Whilst texture layering and iconic local imagery aim to encourage contemplation and make guests feel inspired during their stay.

Caitlin Cadman, Lead Interior Designer said “We are incredibly excited that the Radisson Blu has been shortlisted as a finalist in the renowned Mix Awards. The team have successfully designed and delivered a new hotel that celebrates its locality by combining elements from Sheffield’s Victorian heritage and now diverse modern culture. We are looking forward to celebrating with all the other finalists on the night.”

As an integral part of the Heart of the City development, Radisson Blu Sheffield plays a pivotal role in the ongoing revitalisation of Sheffield’s urban landscape, while raising the city’s profile as a major destination for business and leisure.

Good luck to all finalists, see you in Manchester on the 28th November.
