HLM Architects has announced the appointment of Matthew Morrish as the practice’s first heritage architect.

Having previously worked upon the Regency-era Brighton Dome and many Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian-era buildings, Matthew brings over 20 years’ experience of working with new and historic buildings in sensitive contexts.

“Together with the growing awareness of the retrofit agenda, Matthew’s appointment fits perfectly with our own environmental and sustainability ambitions”

As a RIBA Conservation accredited architect, Matthew will lead consultant and client project teams through the RIBA work stages using his detailed knowledge of the design and construction stages to provide advice and support to clients on the careful repair and re-use of existing structures.

Philip Watson, Director at HLM Architects, said: “In recent years we have seen an increase in our clients’ desires to protect, preserve and revitalise their historic assets. Together with the growing awareness of the retrofit agenda, which fits perfectly with our own environmental and sustainability ambitions and presents the perfect opportunity to augment our team in this increasingly specialised area of work. We’re pleased to welcome Matthew to our team and look forward to collaborating together on this burgeoning area of work.”

Matthew Morrish added: “I’m excited to be joining HLM at what is a pivotal point for both the practice and the architectural profession and (or) the construction industry. With an increasing amount of pressure on creating a net-zero built environment, the adaptative re-use and repair of existing buildings within sensitive and historic architectural settings is becoming increasingly important. I look forward to working with clients to deliver their visions for projects within a practice that is committed to creating a more sustainable built environment.”
