Building Design have this morning announced the shortlist for the 2021 Architect of the Year Awards, and we are thrilled to have made the shortlist in three categories: Best Architectural Employer of the year; Social Impact Award; and Public Building Architect of the Year.
HLM Architects has been shortlisted for three BD Architect of the Year Awards. The practice has been named in the categories, ‘Best Architectural Employer of the year’, ‘Social Impact Award’, and ‘Public Building Architect of the Year’.
The BD Architect of the Year awards are unique in that they judge practices on a body of work, rather than singular projects. Both the Social Impact and Public Building Architect categories showcased three projects.
For the Social Impact Award, we put forward Ysgol Pen Rhos in Llanelli, University of St Andrews Student Accommodation, Scotland and Addington SEN School in London.
Our Public Building Architect submission showcased the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and the Department of Clinical Neurosciences in Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow’s James McCune Smith Learning Hub, and Altnagelvin Hospital North Wing, NI.
The Employer of the Year submission gave an overview of the initiatives we’ve introduced internally that make HLM a great place to work, which include the HLM Academy, SMARTblend flexible working, our Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging group, and our transition to an Employee-Owned Trust.
Philip Watson, Director and Head of Design said, “When your practice’s mission is all about design for people, it’s great to be recognised and shortlisted for three BD Architect of the Year Awards. It’s testament to the hard work of our team and our business colleagues. We’re looking forward to the final in October.”
The results will be announced on the 14th October at the Westminster Park Plaza hotel in London.
