The refurbishment is set to transform the historic Student Union building on John’s Street in Glasgow. The CHATIC building will be the University’s main digital, social and entrepreneurial hub. It will serve as a dynamic centre for nurturing start-ups and established businesses, driving inclusive economic growth for Glasgow and Scotland. The refurbishment of the old Student Union is an opportunity to reimagine this iconic building and expand upon a thriving technology and innovation zone within the wider GCID.
A Vision for Innovation and Collaboration
The refurbished building will be designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and innovation among staff, students, and industry partners. The aim is to revitalise the area into a vibrant and engaging space where people come to meet and choose to stay and work.
Our design approach will emphasise the creation of versatile spaces that transition seamlessly from collaborative areas to quiet, private zones for focused and confidential work. CHATIC: A Hub for Social Innovation

This hub will connect the University’s Business, Policy, and Legal expertise with local communities and public bodies, enabling the translation of disruptive technologies into viable, socially responsible businesses and services.
