Our data analytics service delivers the spatial and social intelligence to make confident decisions about where to plan and invest. Powered by our estate intelligence platform, HLM Place, we ask better questions of the bigger picture, translating complexity into actionable strategies.
Spatial data analytics
Data driven,
human insight
Thoughtful design is underpinned by reliable data and holistic analysis. As a practice, we continually develop our own innovative digital tools and analytical methods to give our clients a clearer picture of their assets, places, and people. We help NHS trusts, universities, local authorities, public bodies and housing associations understand what they have, what’s possible and where to act first.
Our rapidly growing analytics team works directly alongside our architects, planners, landscape architects, technologists and interior designers. Their remit spans the full project lifecycle, so every piece of analysis connects directly to design thinking, enhancing internal processes.
HLM Place
Part of our Thoughtful Design Toolkit, HLM Place is our estate intelligence platform. It combines intuitive, interactive dashboards with our expert consultancy to help clients ask the right questions, identify development opportunities, and prioritise action according to their strategic goals.
The platform ingests data from multiple sources and integrates specialist analysis – ranging from financial viability and sensitivity modelling to biodiversity assessment and transport planning.
Whether our clients are rationalising their public sector portfolio, planning campus growth or assessing development potential across multiple sites, HLM Place supports them in making sense of their own socio-spatial and environmental data and turn it into actionable strategic decisions.
Proving value
Our analytics team brings regional evidence to every sector we work in.
In healthcare, we help NHS trusts and healthcare providers to assess estate performance, develop decarbonisation strategies and design environments that support staff wellbeing and patient outcomes.
In higher education, we work with universities on their decant strategies, and estate masterplanning briefs, helping their management teams plan better for sustainable growth.
In regeneration and urban design projects, we assess portfolios and assets combining feasibility studies with financial viability analysis to develop scenario plans that hold up against policy requirements.

Property is a powerful tool to affect change; socially, economically and environmentally. But this influence can only be exerted when we understand the full picture.
