Health Minister for Wales Vaughan Gething has awarded £220m in funding as part of major renovation works, designed by HLM Architects, at Prince Charles Hospital, in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales.
The funding will be used to further refurbish the ground and first floor, which previously benefitted from £56m from the Welsh Government for previous phases of the programme.
This latest phase of the project will consist of redesigning and relocating departments in order to create more efficient and modern accommodation.
Services which will benefit from this investment include:
- Main theatres
- Day theatres
- Critical care
- Neurophysiology
- Radiology
- Pathology
- Outpatients
- Blood transfusion departments
- Oral maxillofacial services
- Cardio pulmonary services (COPD)
- Endoscopy
- Diabetes services
- Therapies
Work is set to begin in next month and is expected to be completed by 2026, during which time the hospital will remain fully operational.
