Our team in Cardiff were pleased to have worked on this important re cladding project at the Lydstep Flats Tower, North Cardiff.
The project also provides much needed regeneration to the local landscape, upgrade of the cladding to meet new fire regulations and a new contemporary look to the tower blocks.
The project focused on replacement of existing cladding with a new cladding system to the 3 residential blocks.
A lightweight cladding solution was previously fitted to the blocks and has now been removed having been identified to not meet with the relevant fire regulations for buildings of this type.
The project focused on replacement of existing cladding with a new cladding system to the 3 residential blocks (all above 18m). The three residential tower blocks now meet with the latest fire regulations and provide the necessary elevational treatment of the blocks for the provision and retention of the installed engineering systems contained within.
Hydrock (Stantec) produced the External Wall assessment (EWA) which formed the basis for the envelope upgrade strategy led by HLM and was delivered on sight by ISG.
External envelope works include over cladding to existing external walls, replacing external windows and doors, replacement of the roof and associated items to lift over run section, replacement of downpipes, balcony refurbishments to all flats, replacement balustrades and parapets to the main roof area, minor structural repairs and minor mechanical and electrical works.
The development consists of 126 flats arranged in three blocks. Each block has 11 floors. Upper floors have four flats at each level. The exception to this is the ground floors of each block, where two flats are located along with several landlord spaces for the provision of storage space, plant rooms and communal entrances.
