Work has resumed on the extension of Techniquest, Wales’ popular science discovery centre in Cardiff Bay, which focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Known as The Science Capital, the extension of the UK’s longest established science centre provides approx. 1,000m2 of additional exhibition and commercial hire space, almost doubling in size, and forms a key part of Techniquest’s mission to extend and diversify its audiences to ensure a sustainable long-term future in Wales.
The extension will be dedicated to engaging new and existing audiences with innovative, contemporary science and will highlight new research and developments across the STEM sectors, emphasising how the creative application of this ground-breaking work tackles real-life problems. It will deliver content through a combination of exhibitions, multimedia displays, programming and events and will be refreshed and renewed on a continual basis, responding to (and promoting) new scientific developments.

The new extension will provide the needed additional exhibition space for Techniquest to serve its local communities, as well as allowing the flexibility to host other types of events. The innovative exhibition technology, and adaptable nature of the interior design, will enable Techniquest to respond rapidly to STEM partner public engagement needs and to visitor trends, thus firmly positioning Techniquest as the leading STEM partner of choice in Wales and beyond. This approach will allow Techniquest to present challenging, thought provoking content to audiences in ways which will push boundaries.
