Our architecture, landscape and interior design teams took a collaborative approach to deliver a cohesive, operationally-led fire station for Cosham, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS).
Together, our teams created a robust, future-ready station that reflects the HIWFRS identity and supports its people. Every detail was shaped by dialogue, evidence and a shared commitment to functionality, safety and community impact.
Social value
Cosham Fire Station was designed to serve more than its operational purpose – it’s a community asset.
We worked with HIWFRS to embed social value through inclusive design, shared spaces for public engagement, and wellbeing-focused interiors. The civic landscape encourages community ownership, while flexible office space supports wider blue light and public sector collaboration.
In the long-term, the station fosters stronger local partnerships, enhances public safety education, and supports a diverse, resilient workforce. By aligning design with social impact, we helped create a place that’s not just fit for purpose, but fit for people.
Sustainability
We designed Cosham Fire Station to exceed environmental standards, achieving BREEAM Excellent through smart fabric performance, solar energy, and rainwater attenuation.
Our team applied HLM’s sustainability expertise to integrate low-impact materials and intuitive zoning that supports long-term health and wellbeing. Surface water management and contamination control were carefully considered, with interceptors and specialist drainage systems.
Our flexible detailing and value engineering ensured resilience and efficiency. Every decision – from layout to landscape – was evidence-based, and shaped by our commitment to creating a future-proof, low-carbon facility that supports both people and planet.

Landscape architecture
We created a civic landscape that balances secure access with community welcome.
Low-maintenance, climate-resilient planting enhances biodiversity year-round, while hard landscaping supports emergency training and vehicle movement.
Our landscape design overcame spatial constraints to deliver a multifunctional, inclusive outdoor environment that reflects HIWFRS commitment to public engagement and operational excellence.
