Our studio
Our new Plymouth base is nestled in the stunning Alma Yard, a collection of historic buildings that date back to the mid-19th century, and has been redeveloped into contemporary, inspiring workspaces.
Just a short stroll from Plymouth’s city centre, Alma Yard is a vibrant creative hub, an ideal setting for HLM to design, collaborate, and innovate.
The new studio marks a return to Plymouth for HLM, we had a studio here until 2018. Over the years, we’ve delivered some standout projects in the area, including Whitleigh Education Campus, Brannell School, Chamberlain House at Plymouth Science Park and the Marine Station at Coxside. And we’ve continued to work across the South West in recent years, supporting clients in the defence sector, including the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, and the Royal Navy at HMNB Devonport.
Our local team
The Plymouth studio is led by Kay Hanson. Kay knows the region well, she spent 14 years with us earlier in her career, and she’s lectured at Arts University Plymouth and University of Plymouth. Kay recently joined the South West Women in Construction committee, strengthening her ties to the local industry.
