Delighted to say we have another newly qualified Architect in our Glasgow Studio – very well done to Andras Berze for passing your Part III qualification. Having studied at the Glasgow school of Architecture he then worked in London and Dublin. Finally moving back to Glasgow to complete his studies and join our Glasgow team.
Andras said “What I appreciate most about my work at HLM is the opportunity to engage with complex challenges and contribute to projects that have a real impact.”
Andras has worked in many Sectors at HLM most recently working on two imhealthcare projects for NHS Lothian—the National Treatment Centre and the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion. Working as technical advisor provided new and exciting challenges for him.
Andras said “I found the in-depth discussions with healthcare professionals and estate management teams to be incredibly rewarding, especially as we collaborated on developing the Exemplar Design. It was fascinating to be part of a project that was driven entirely by process, serving as a crucial reference point in the procurement process. These projects also raised important questions about the evolving role of architects in today’s complex contractual landscape. Through this, I developed a keen interest in thoughtfully interrogating client briefs and evaluating best practices. Sometimes, a project is more about understanding the client’s process than the building itself. In addition to healthcare, I’ve had the chance to contribute to several defence projects across the UK. HLM’s extensive experience in managing large, complex briefs in this sector provided valuable insight. More recently, I had the privilege of directly participating in contractor-led meetings with various stakeholders. Working closely with the Design Team, I helped deliver a comprehensive scheme design package for a 13,300 sqm specialist workshop facility. This experience significantly deepened my understanding of contract management, especially in a project that benefitted from substantial early contractor involvement”.
While studying Andras has been mentored by Adam McAvoy who said “The great experience Andras has gained on several defence projects, mainly the Imjin Barracks Single Living Accommodation (SLA) project, has given him the skillset and knowledge base for undertaking and passing his Part 3 exam. Andras has shown a commitment and dedication to the exam process and can use the title of Architect proudly!”
Looking ahead, Andras is excited about the opportunities to take on more responsibility in his career, especially within the defence sector, where he has gained valuable experience on projects. He looks forward to stepping into more leadership roles, and refine his skills in contract management, project coordination, and team collaboration.
