Sustainability
We delivered this award-winning, highly sustainable facility, by pioneering ultra-low carbon cross laminated timber (CLT) combined with a hybrid widespan steel portal frame.
The visible-grade CLT, delivers a resilient, flexible, and acoustically exceptional main hall, setting new standards for low-carbon construction.
We further enhanced energy efficiency through air source heat pumps, solar panels, prefabricated containment kits, and programmable lighting systems. By integrating these measures, the project reduces its carbon footprint, and establishes a powerful precedent for decarbonising the MOD estate.

Defence Related Environmental Assessment Methodology (DREAM) ‘Excellent’ rating
The new band facility is a remarkable asset that will support current and future generations of army musicians. The building provides modern, noise-compliant rehearsal and performance space, alongside kitchens and storage facilities. The design includes the latest sustainable construction methods, supporting the army’s commitment to net-zero targets. This project is an excellent demonstration of the ongoing investment across the army estate to deliver better working facilities for service personnel.

Conservation
The character and setting of the new facility have been thoughtfully integrated into the historic context of Sandhurst, preserving and enhancing the site’s heritage value. We achieved this by blending new construction and careful refurbishment of historic buildings, to create a unique synergy between modern architecture and military heritage.
