HLM Architects are pleased to share that planning has been approved for a new Radisson Red Hotel at Ingliston, Edinburgh. The project for Creos Property will provide a 204-key lifestyle hotel with excellent transport links, and connections to the Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh’s West End.

On approach to the city from the west, the two volumes will provide a striking contrast, prompting visitor interest and providing a sense of arrival to the city.

Forming a key gateway to the western approach to Edinburgh, the accommodation will sit over eight floors and be complemented by business facilities, a gym, restaurant and rooftop bar. Additionally, the scheme will be net zero ready and fully electric.

Comprised of two parallel blocks spanning east to west, the design reflects the context and heritage of the site. The north block responds to the pioneering context of engineering and innovation, reflected in both the aviation industry at Edinburgh Airport, and the achievements of the Forth Bridges beyond. Conversely, the south block responds to the agricultural context of the Royal Highland Centre and the farming and architectural history of the wider area.

Ross Barrett, Design Director, commented:

“We’re thrilled for our client Creos Property, and believe this is a great example of a collaborative process which will create a landmark building for West Edinburgh, designed around excellent sustainability performance.  The rooftop sky bar will provide fantastic views to key landmarks and will help create an exceptional guest experience synonymous with Radisson Red”.

On approach to the city from the west, the two volumes will provide a striking contrast, prompting visitor interest and providing a sense of arrival to the city.

The landmark hotel will provide unrivalled views from the rooftop in each direction; the airport and Forth Bridges to the north, the city skyline to the east, the Pentland Hills to the south and the Royal Highland Centre and showground to the west.

Sitting alongside the A8, the selected site is situated close to the proposed West Town Edinburgh development, a major investment to expand the city.
