Inclusive urban living
The Movement, Greenwich delivers a thriving mixed-use community – setting a benchmark for inclusive urban living. Residents benefit from 185 new homes, student accommodation, business incubators, leisure facilities, and enhanced public realm.
Our architects, masterplanners, landscape architects, and urban designers worked as one team to shape an integrated design approach rooted in a shared vision to create a new gateway to Greenwich town centre. Our bold masterplan centred around a new east-west public realm route, creating a strong sense of place. We worked closely with the local authority and community to shape a diverse mix of uses.
Each building was designed with its own identity, and the public realm celebrates Greenwich’s industrial heritage, contributing to a rich, cohesive streetscape.
I would like to thank HLM for their contribution to the success of The Movement and to making it the inspiring and beautiful place it is. As a team we have transformed a derelict industrial warehouse site into a new living, breathing community bringing jobs, homes and economic sustainability to an important part of Greenwich town centre.

Our scheme creates social value beyond its physical development through HLM’s inclusive masterplanning, and our client’s commitment to regeneration. Extensive stakeholder engagement fostered grassroots ownership, while the extension of the West Greenwich Community Centre enables new services and support.
The project introduces business incubators, student housing, and affordable homes – enhancing life chances and community cohesion. Improved public realm and connectivity promote wellbeing and accessibility. The long-term social benefits include economic stimulation, an enrichment of local heritage and culture, and a resilient, evolving community.

We achieved significant sustainable outcomes by developing a comprehensive, tailored community energy strategy.
The Movement exceeds standard benchmarks for operational carbon emissions, achieving a 66% carbon emissions reduction. Our strategy included maximising building efficiency, and connecting to a CHP-powered community heating network.
Our masterplanning team’s thorough site analysis ensured optimal site use, while improving pedestrian connectivity and public realm. Our approach aligned with the London Plan, and SPD Sustainable Design and Construction guidelines.
