More than bedrooms; places to thrive
Whitehorn and Powell Halls deliver nearly 400 student bedrooms across two sensitively designed buildings – marking the largest accommodation expansion by the University of St Andrews in over a decade.
At Whitehorn, collegiate-style quads and a central social hub foster community and reflect the character of the listed university hall.
Powell Hall offers vibrant amenity spaces and zinc-clad pop-outs that animate the façade and encourage interaction.
Both schemes balance heritage with contemporary design, creating inclusive environments where students live, learn and grow. Working closely with the University and Campus Living Villages, we delivered spaces that reflect the University’s values – where students can live, learn and thrive.
We’re absolutely delighted with both residences. The mix of social space and bedrooms is excellent, the design of social space is in keeping with the wider environment, and you know you are in St Andrews because of the interior graphics. It is well used, and well looked after, so clearly students appreciate the space.

Designing the student experience
We designed spaces where students feel at home, inspired and connected. From vibrant social hubs to quiet study zones, each area supports wellbeing and academic growth. Flexible furniture, bespoke colour palettes and feature lighting reflect individuality, while shared kitchens, cinema rooms and concierge services elevate everyday living.
Students want more than a room – they want community. Our designs respond to that need, encouraging collaboration and comfort. Whitehorn and Powell Halls provides a student experience that’s inclusive, adaptable and rooted in the spirit of St Andrews.
